Elephant Transit Home
Elephants that are wounded or orphaned are temporarily cared for at the Udawalawe Transit Home in Sri Lanka before being released back into the wild. The Sri Lanka Department of Wildlife Conservation manages it and provides a protected setting where elephants may get specialized care, medical attention, and interaction with other elephants. Visitors may see the elephants from a safe distance while learning more about their conservation efforts and habits. The transit home's ultimate purpose is to release the elephants back into the wild, where they may live naturally and improve the ecology as a whole.
