Museo de Arqueologia Subacuatica Fuerte de San Jose
Located on an elevation north of the city, the Fort of San Jose el Alto is one of the most imposing fortifications in the defensive system of San Francisco de Campeche.
It was key to protecting the city from constant attacks by pirates and privateers sailing through the Gulf of Mexico. Its strategic location allowed monitoring of both land and sea access, strengthening the security of the region.
Currently, the fort houses the Museum of Arms and Navigation, where historical pieces such as antique weaponry, models of boats and objects related to military defense of the time are displayed.
During the visit, you can explore its wide spaces, explore its walls and enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the city and its surroundings, ideal to know more about the history and take excellent photographs.
