Los Jameos del Agua has its origin after the eruption of the Corona Volcano. The word “jameo” is of Guanche origin, and refers to the hole that occurs as a result of the collapse of the roof of a volcanic tube, in this case, the Corona volcanic tube.
Those who do not wish to enter Jameos del Agua will be able to see the "Jameo Rearo", which is free and next to the sea. The underwater part of all these volcanic tubes is known as the "Atlantis Tunnel", one of the most important tunnels in the world. You can also enjoy some time at the "Playa de la Pequena", located at the back of Jameos del Agua, although it is not usually suitable for swimming due to the waves, you can sunbathe and get your feet wet.
