The largest urban forest in the world! Lush green forest, with tall trees where all paths lead to a beautiful view of the city.

Jardim Botanico
By order of the then prince regent Dom João, the Jardim de Aclimação was created with the purpose of acclimatizing the spice plants from the East Indies: nutmeg, cinnamon and black pepper, the establishment of a gunpowder factory at the headquarters of the old "Engenho da Lagoa". One of the most beautiful and well-preserved green areas in the city, it is an example of the diversity of Brazilian and foreign flora. Around 6,500 species (some threatened with extinction) can be observed there, spread over an area of 54 hectares, outdoors and in greenhouses.
The institution also houses monuments of historical, artistic and archaeological value and the most complete library in the country specializing in botany and is the largest herbarium in Brazil.
