Moat Preah
Wat Preah Ang Thom, also known as the Reclining Buddha on Phnom Kulen (Kulen Mountain), is a magnificent 8-meter-long sandstone statue carved directly into a large rock face. It dates back to the 16th century and depicts the Buddha at the time of achieving nirvana.
Positioned atop Kulen Mountain, the site is both a major pilgrimage destination and a place of natural beauty—visitors climb a staircase to reach the sheltered statue and often pause at nearby Buddha’s footprints and elephant-flanked naga balustrades.
Beyond its serene setting, the Reclining Buddha holds deep historical significance, with inscriptions from the post-Angkorian period suggesting its notable status across the region.
In essence, Wat Preah Ang Thom offers a powerful blend of spiritual resonance, ancient craftsmanship, and scenic mountain surroundings.
