Cabo da Roca
Cabo da Roca is the westernmost point of mainland Portugal and mainland Europe. It is located in the parish of Colares, in the municipality of Sintra and district of Lisbon.
The site is visitable, not to the extreme but to a zone at an altitude of 140 m. The Cape forms the western extreme of the Sierra de Sintra, precipitating over the Atlantic Ocean.
Luís Vaz de Camões described it as the place “where the earth ends and the sea begins”
A stone pattern with a brick marks this geographical peculiarity to everyone who visits this place.
Its flora is diverse and, in many cases, has unique species, being the subject of various studies that extend, equally, to geomorphology, among others.
In the area there is a lighthouse (Farol do Cabo da Roca) and a tourist store.
It is inserted into the Natural Park of Sintra-Cascais, in a zone of easy access and of great tourist affluence, and many people visit it.
On Sundays it is customary to concentrate several groups of motorcyclists.

Cascais
Its origin as an independent entity dates from the Charter of the Village of 7 June 1364, in which King Pedro I of Portugal separated it from the territory of Sintra due to its economic development. Occupied since the Paleolithic period, and with an important archaeological heritage, the municipality was from an early age focused on agricultural production, fishing and the extraction of resources. Also its strategic position in Barra do Tejo contributed to its importance, having today a vast military architectural heritage.
Due to its natural and landscape values, both the village and the municipality experienced a surge in popularity that saw it become the preferred destination of the Portuguese and foreign elites from the 19th century onwards. The arrival and electrification of the railway were transcendental to the progress of the municipality, being the main factor for its urbanization from 1930 onwards.
