Itinerary
1
Rothenburg ob der Tauber
Discover the city wall that consists of covered ramparts walkways and towers. After the financial depression in 1600's, the citizens came together to restore the buildings damaged by the World War Two bombings 30 years ago from that time.
2
Der Roderturm
In the north-eastern quarter of the city you will be able to clearly understand the developmental history and about the reconstruction after 1945. The Röderturm tower was destroyed in the war but was restored again.
3
Gerlachschmiede
On the street of Röderschütt, view one of the most famous half-timbered house near the gate Rödertor. Its apex was constructed by George Gerlach.
4
Das Plonlein
Derived from the latin word “plnum”, meaning flat square. Framed by the Kobolzellar tower and Gerlack Blacksmith with a fountain in its front, this little square is a perfect picturesque.
5
Markusturm and Buttelhaus
Also known as the Romantik Hotel, owned by the Berger family since 1972, this hotel is associated with great values and equipped with antiquities.
6
Fleisch- und Tanzhaus
Continuing with our Tower Trail, we come to the White Tower adjoining the Jewish Dance House. It was also a part of the original fortifications when the city expanded. The history marks itself when in March 1945, the American bombs destroyed 40% of the city.
7
Rothenburg Town Hall (Rathaus)
Visit the Rathaus, simply known as the Town Hall. It is one of the important renaissance buildings dating from the year 1250 with the Gothic architecture. Since the medieval ages and formation of the federalism the building has served as a city-state seat for the government. It is almost 61 meters high and has accessible tower.
8
Franziskanerkirche
Visit the Franciscan church also known as Franciscan Friary of the Conventual Franciscans. It was founded in 1218 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary. This church consists of supreme art works and is of a mendicant order.
