Itinerary
1
Iveragh Peninsula
It is the largest peninsula in southwestern Ireland. A mountain range, the MacGillycuddy's Reeks, lies in the centre of the peninsula. Carrauntoohil, its highest mountain, is also the highest peak in Ireland.
1 hour
2
Valentia Island
Valentia, off the South West coast of Kerry, is an island of great beauty and contrast. It is joined to the mainland by bridge via the Portmagee Channel.
The western part of the island is dominated by the barren, dramatic cliffs of Bray Head which command spectacular views of the Kerry coastline while the mild effect of the Gulf Stream results in Valentia's balmy climate and lush, colourful vegetation.
2 hours
3
Valentia Lighthouse
Located in one of the most scenic areas on the edge of Europe, facing into the prevailing weather, Valentia Island Lighthouse is home to the most westerly harbour light on the island of Ireland, guiding vessels through the northern entrance to Valentia Harbour.
30 minutes
4
Staigue Stone Fort
The fort is thought to have been built during the late Iron Age, probably somewhere between 300 and 400 AD, as a defensive stronghold for a local lord or king.
30 minutes
5
Moll's Gap
Once you reach the summit, you’ll enjoy incredible views of Upper Lake, the Black Valley and Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, not to mention the Gap of Dunloe, which you can easily make out on a clear day. But the highlight is Ladies View, a splendid vantage point overlooking the whole of Killarney Park. The view is so beautiful that Queen Victoria is said to have allowed her ladies-in-waiting to admire the landscape with her.
30 minutes
6
Killarney National Park
Here, stretching across 10,000 hectares, lies Killarney National Park, with its unforgettable combination of mountains, lakes, woodland and waterfalls.
Killarney National Park incorporates the lakes as well as Kenmare and Muckross Estate, including Bourn Vincent Memorial Park, presented to the State in 1932 as Ireland’s first National Park.
