Laxenburg Castle Park
The castle park is the largest landscape garden in Austria and dates back to the 13th century. Laxenburg Castle is one of the most impressive castles in Europe and its grounds are considered a jewel in the crown and the heart of the city. The entire area includes castles, houses, caves, temples and water features. An important monument is Franzensburg Castle, which stands on an artificial island in the middle of the castle pond. The castle was built in the early 19th century and its interiors are charming. Inside is a museum known as the "Austrian Treasure House". Empress Sisi and Emperor Franz Joseph spent their honeymoon at Laxenburg. Later, Crown Prince Rudolf was born here. You can hire a boat or take the panorama train. There are also restaurants where you can try some of the local specialities.

Bratislava Castle
Bratislava Castle stands on a site that has been fortified for thousands of years. Originally a defensive fortress, it was rebuilt into a Renaissance-Gothic palace in the 15th century. It acquired its characteristic four-tower shape when it was the magnificent residence of Ferdinand I of Habsburg. Interestingly, the castle actually has only one tower. This is the 13th century Crown Tower, which once housed the crown jewels. Today you can see a replica of them here. The other three towers were added later. Inside the castle there is an exposition of the Slovak National Museum. The original interior has not been preserved because the castle burned down in 1811. It was repaired in 1953. The castle offers a beautiful view of the Alps and the Carpathians. From the terraces you can see the Danube and the Austro-Hungarian border. Legend has it that an underground road leads from here to Vienna.

Kreuzenstein Castle
Kreuzenstein Castle, near Leobendorf, has impressive architecture reminiscent of medieval castles. Interestingly, it was built in the 19th century. The original 12th-century castle was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War and has been in ruins ever since. Its later owner, Count Wilczek, bought parts of medieval buildings from all over Europe to make the castle look authentic. The castle houses a museum and has become a popular film location. The castle can be seen in films such as 1912's The Miracle, 2019's Netflix series The Witcher, and dozens of other films. During the tour you will see the castle kitchen with the table around which the building was built. You will also visit the chapel, the knights' hall and the prince's room with its medieval furniture.
