About
This tour mainly follows the coastline south of the town of Otranto. This area is characterised by a picturesque landscape, rich in natural beauty, and home to a number of archaeological and historical sites: Roman and modern watchtowers, and Second World War bunkers. The route follow roads with little or no traffic and paths that, in some sections, run along rocky outcrops or are covered in gravel. The total distance is approximately 7 km (4.4 miles) with a total elevation gain of 80 m (265 feet). Along the way, we will make a few stops to visit natural and archaeological sites. This tour is designed for those who enjoy walking in nature and are interested in history and geography.

What's Included
Guide
We recommend wearing shoes suitable for walking on rocks and gravel.
If you feel more comfortable, you can bring your walking poles.
From May to October, it is strongly advised to bring water for hydration and solar protection.
From November to April, it may rain and wind chill could be significant, please, dress accordingly.
We suggest participants to bring the strictly necessary and leave the rest in the car or hotel.

Torre del Serpe
After a short climb along a path, we will reach the Torre del Serpe. Chronologically speaking, this is the earliest archaeological site we will visit, bearing witness to the historical importance of Otranto and its surrounding area.

Baia delle Orte
The path continues through a stunning landscape of rocks, vegetation and sea. On the horizon, you can see Punta Palascia, the easternmost point of Italy. At Baia dell'Orte there is a café, open almost all year round. Here we can stop for a coffee or a snack (not included) whilst admiring the beautiful view.

On the way back, we will visit the bauxite quarry, which offers a stunning display of colours.
