Explore the museum’s historic buildings, and displays that bring the story of early European exploration and the development of Mossel Bay to life. A highlight is the famous Post Office Tree, a centuries-old milkwood tree where sailors once exchanged letters and messages. Visitors can also view the impressive replica of Dias’s Portuguese caravel, offering a glimpse into the type of vessel used during the Age of Exploration.

Cape St Blaize Lighthouse
Enjoy beautiful views of the historic Cape St Blaize Lighthouse, proudly overlooking the Indian Ocean from the rugged cliffs above the town. Built in 1864, the lighthouse has guided ships along this challenging stretch of coastline for more than 160 years and remains an important symbol of Mossel Bay’s maritime heritage.
Admire the lighthouse and learn about its history, its vital role in helping to protect passing vessels, and the spectacular coastal landscape that surrounds it.
The experience continues with a walk up to the fascinating Cape St Blaize Cave, located beneath the cliffs along the famous St Blaize Trail. These ancient caves are internationally recognised for their archaeological importance and provide evidence of early human occupation dating back thousands of years.
