Meknes
Starting In Rabat, you’ll be up for an early breakfast before beginning your trip to the Imperial City of Meknes. The city was founded at the end of the 17th century and was once Morocco's capital during the reign of Sultan Moulay Ismail; much of the town is under renovation, including the Bab El Mansour gate, which is under scaffolding, and the old Medina. So it will be a brief driving tour to get a sense of this otherwise lovely town.

Volubilis
Then drive to Moulay Idriss, about 33 kilometers north of Meknes, for lunch at a fabulous restaurant that sits on a steep hillside over 5 levels and offers iconic views of Moulay Idriss' mausoleum as well as the Roman ruins of Volubilis.
The atmosphere is eclectic, the décor is one-of-a-kind, and the food is delicious. There will also be some delicious gris wine available. You will then proceed to the well-preserved Roman ruins of Volubilis, which date back to the first and second centuries. Volubilis is Morocco's best-preserved archaeological site, and it was designated a Unesco World Heritage site in 1997. Its most amazing features are the many beautifully preserved mosaics.
