About
The highest point in the Algarve, Monchique captivates with its green surroundings, the simplicity of its people and the quality of its gastronomy. Its strategic location thanks to its mountains made Monchique an important point for the Romans as well as the Arabs. In the 15th century, King João II was so impressed by the therapeutic properties of Monchique’s thermal waters that he ordered the construction of a thermal facility which, at the time, was a point of attraction for the locals and has remained a distinctive feature of the region to this day. Monchique thus proves to be the ideal place for those looking for a different Algarve, away from the hustle and bustle of the beaches.
