Diakopto
A Journey by Rack Railway through the Vouraikos Gorge
Step aboard the historic Odontotos Rack Railway for an unforgettable journey through one of Greece’s most breathtaking natural wonders — the Vouraikos Gorge. Departing from the seaside town of Diakopto, the train slowly ascends into the mountains, following a 22-kilometer route carved through dramatic cliffs, lush vegetation, and cascading waterfalls.
Built in 1896, this narrow-gauge railway is a masterpiece of engineering, climbing steep gradients with the help of a special cogwheel system. As the train winds through tunnels and over stone bridges, you’ll pass towering rock walls that rise like a cathedral of stone on either side. The views are ever-changing — from wild riverbeds and pine-covered slopes to hidden chapels and deep canyons.

Mega Spileo Monastery
Perched dramatically on the face of a towering cliff at nearly 1,000 meters above sea level, Mega Spilaio Monastery is one of the most visually striking landmarks in the Peloponnese. Surrounded by rugged peaks, deep gorges, and pine-covered slopes, the monastery seems to grow out of the rock itself — a seamless blend of human craftsmanship and wild nature.
As you approach, the view is breathtaking: stone buildings clinging to sheer vertical walls, balconies suspended above the abyss, and the vast mountain landscape stretching endlessly in every direction. The air is crisp and clear, filled with the scent of pine and the quiet sounds of nature.
While the monastery holds centuries of history, what captivates most visitors is the setting — a place where silence, scale, and scenery come together to create an atmosphere of wonder. It's less about religion and more about awe: a hidden gem in the mountains, offering views that stay with you long after you've left.

Kalavryta
You’ll have 1.5 to 2 hours of free time in Kalavryta to stroll through the town, visit local shops and cafes, or simply relax and enjoy the mountain atmosphere.
Nestled in the heart of the northern Peloponnese, at an altitude of around 750 meters, Kalavryta is a mountain town that perfectly blends natural beauty, traditional architecture, and a deep sense of history. Surrounded by lush forests, rolling hills, and snow-capped peaks in winter, the town feels like a peaceful retreat from the rush of everyday life.
Its stone-paved streets, cozy tavernas, and red-roofed houses invite you to slow down and take in the atmosphere. Whether you're enjoying a coffee in the main square, exploring local shops, or walking beneath the shadows of the surrounding mountains, Kalavryta offers a sense of calm and authenticity that’s rare to find.
