Izola is a small fishing town with an artistic soul. Once an island like some other coastal towns, it was gradually connected to the mainland through land reclamation in the 19th century. For many years, its main industries were fishing and agriculture, primarily focused on gardening and viticulture. Later, the town industrialized, boasting a shipyard, a large toy factory, and a significant fish canning plant during its most prosperous times. The earliest discovered artifacts are located in Simon's Bay (Roman Halieatum), belonging to a rustic villa with a port, which was later destroyed. The inhabitants then moved to a safer location, a nearby island, where Izola was founded.
