Explore the historic center of Cocula, known as the cradle of mariachi. Walk through its traditional plaza, visit the iconic church, and experience the authentic rhythm of a Mexican Pueblo Mágico. During this 60-minute guided visit, you will also stop at the local mariachi school, where new generations preserve and continue this musical tradition. In addition, you will explore historic tunnels that, according to local history, were used during the Cristero War, offering a glimpse into a significant chapter of Mexico’s past. Your guide will share stories about the origins of mariachi, regional traditions, and the cultural heritage that makes Cocula a symbol of Jalisco’s identity.

Visit the Museo del Mariachi in Cocula, the birthplace of this iconic musical tradition. Mariachi was recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and this museum preserves the history, instruments, and stories behind its evolution. During the visit, you will learn about the origins of traditional sones and the cultural identity of Jalisco. The museum is directed by Rafael Plazola, son of one of Cocula’s most renowned mariachi musicians, adding a living connection to this heritage and offering insight rooted in authentic local tradition.

Visit a century-old traditional bakery where the granddaughter of the original owner will share the story of her family’s legacy. This historic bakery still bakes its bread in the same stone ovens used over 100 years ago, preserving authentic techniques passed down through generations.
