Uganda Martyrs Shrine
Located just a short walk apart, the Namugongo Martyrs Shrines commemorate the Christian martyrs of Uganda. The Catholic Shrine, built on the site where St. Charles Lwanga and his companions were killed, features a striking hut-shaped basilica supported by 22 pillars and draws millions of pilgrims each June 3rd. Nearby, the Anglican Shrine honours 23 Anglican martyrs and includes a modern amphitheatre, educational museum, and sacred springs—together reflecting Uganda’s deep faith and ecumenical heritage
