The Ploegsteert Memorial
The PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL commemorates 11,347 servicemen of the United Kingdom and South African forces who died in this sector during the First World War.

Christmas Truce Memorial
In the fields outside the village, one of the most unlikely sporting events in history took place over Christmas 1914, when the two sets of exhausted troops declared an unofficial ceasefire, sang carols, and ventured into No Man’s Land to exchange alcohol, tobacco and food. Commanding officers on both sides, it is said, were not amused. On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, a series of impromptu football games were staged along the 500-mile frontline, but the most famous of them was at Plugstreet, when the British contingent included a number of kilted soldiers from the Argyle Highlanders, up against the 133rd Saxon Regiment for Germany.

Hill 60
Hill 60 moon landscape is an authentic witness from the Great War. The artificial hill from 1850 lies about 60 meters above sea-level, hence the name. During the war, this site saw some heavy fighting and changed sides frequently. Both parties took part in the underground war which led to the blowing of numerous mines from 1915 onwards.

The Battle of Polygon Wood took place from 26 September to 3 October 1917, during the second phase of the Third Battle of Ypres in the First World War. The battle was fought near Ypres in Belgium, in the area from the Menin road to Polygon Wood and thence north, to the area beyond St Julien.
