If we are lucky, they even treat us to local folk songs and dances. Local guides who expertly and very carefully capture for us the truly wild jungle animals. Specialities such as the dwarf chameleon and up to 6-7 other rare chameleon species, lizzards, snakes, frogs. Close encounters with the funny and extremely friendly, but not cheeky or aggressive wild lemurs. Even with 5-6 species. Lunch in a real fishing village. Lokobe Nature Special Reserve
The Lokobe Natural Reserve is in the south-eastern part of Nosy-Be. This protected national park has a rich and unique endemic fauna and flora. This protected national park is the only place on the entire island with a real, original tropical jungle, and it is home to one of the smallest dwarf chameleons in the world (just 6 cm high).
The first stop of our tour is the fishing village of AMPASIPOHY where we arrive by an old-fashioned boat after an hour of sailing together. In the village, we will enjoy refreshments and seasonal tropical fruits, and relax a bit after the tiring canoeing.
After the short rest in the village, we take a 2-4 hour hike to Nosy-Be’s unique forest. Our own local guide will take us by the hand and show you several unique animals (dwarf and other chameleons, lemurs, giant and other snakes, geckos, tropical birds, etc) and plants that live in the forest. After the jungle treck the program also includes an authentic Malagasy lunch or dinner in the native village.
