We will pass by the Mdina Gate, the majestic main entrance to the ancient city of Mdina. Also known as the Vilhena Gate, this grand Baroque gateway was built in 1724 and serves as a striking example of Malta’s rich architectural heritage. The statue of St. Paul stands beside the parish church dedicated to the same saint, set within a picturesque piazza at the heart of Rabat. Additionally, we have the opportunity to visit a small yet fascinating catacomb, offering a glimpse into Malta’s early Christian heritage.

Serving as a burial ground from Punic, Roman and Byzantine times the St Paul’s Catacombs represent the earliest and largest archaeological evidence of Christianity in Malta. It’s association to the saint derives from the myth that this cluster of catacombs was once connected with St Paul’s Grotto.
