Piazza della Repubblica
When you arrive in Piazza della Repubblica you can really say that you have arrived in the center of Florence. The Column of Abundance represents Facts, the exact center of city, the ancient "navel" of the Roman Forum. It also marks the border between the three of the four historic Florentine districts that are located on this side of the Arno, namely between the blues of Santa Croce, the greens of San Giovanni and the reds of Santa Maria Novella; the whites of Santo Spirito in fact have their territory in Oltrarno.
Part of the current square was used as a market and because it was the most important point from the political and social commercial point of view of the city, in this place many anecdotes and legends were born.
