Cape Agulhas Lighthouse
The cape Agulhas Lighthouse is the second -oldest working lighthouse in South Africa since 1849. the lighthouse was built in response to the countless shipwrecks that litter this jagged cost. the area is known as the graveyard of ships. after the horrific wreck of the Arniston in 1815, which claimed 372 lives just east of Cape Agulhas , due to public pressure finally lead to its construction . the lighthouse was declared a national monument in 1973 and remains fully operational today
