Macchia Della Magona
The Macchia della Magona is a vast protected natural area in the municipality of Bibbona, in the province of Livorno, on the Etruscan Coast. Considered an important green lung of Tuscany, it covers over 1600 hectares behind the beaches of Marina di Bibbona. The reserve is characterized by Mediterranean scrub, forests of holm oaks, oaks, junipers and strawberry trees, and is classified as a biotope by the National Research Recommendation. It is home to native species such as wolf, fox, wild boar, porcupine and numerous varieties of birds. In the past it was used as a reserve of wood and coal to power the furnaces of the ironworks of the Real Magona of Cecina. Today the park offers over 50 km of trails and trails ideal for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Inside you can visit the hut of the lumberjacks, the charcoal burner, an ancient water mill and the ancient Etruscan tombs known as yellow caves. It is a perfect place to experience nature in an active and relaxed way.
