Sistine Chapel
The Sistine Chapel Built between 1473 and 1481 under Pope Sixtus IV, the chapel serves as the papal conclave’s site, where new popes are elected, as well as a place of worship.
The chapel’s ceiling, painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512. The ceiling features over 300 figures depicting scenes from the Book of Genesis, including the world-renowned Creation of Adam, where God’s and Adam’s fingers nearly touch.
Last Judgment fresco, painted on the altar wall between 1536 and 1541. This dramatic portrayal of the final judgment emphasizes human emotion and divine justice, further showcasing Michelangelo’s artistic genius.
The Sistine Chapel also houses frescoes by other Renaissance masters, including Sandro Botticelli, Domenico Ghirlandaio, and Pietro Perugino, who contributed to the chapel’s vibrant wall decorations. These works celebrate the life of Moses&Christ, offering a visual narrative of biblical themes.
