Yagul is an important site because in its surroundings rock shelters have been found with vestiges of cave paintings from nomadic groups, probably gatherers and hunters who were the first settlers in the Oaxaca Valley. Its importance is also characterized because it is one of the sites where the original flora and fauna can still be observed.
