Start at the Scheldt River to gaze at the fairy-tale looking Het Steen Castle, majestically located on the romantic riverside. The oldest building in the historical city is what is left of the medieval fortification walls that defended Antwerp against the Vikings.

Grote Markt
Next, head to the city center, characterized by Italian-Flemish architecture and stunning sculptural works. One of the finest examples is Grote Markt (Great Market Square). The favorite meeting point in the city is ringed by photogenic old buildings, most notably the Town Hall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Of particular interest, the guildhall overlooks the spectacular centrepiece fountain depicting Brabo, the mythical hero of Antwerp, fighting a giant in beautiful detail.
15 minutes
3
Vlaeykensgang
Then, explore the weaving medieval Vlaeykensgang Alley, hidden behind the majestic architectural showcase in the square. The secluded lane, no wider than the doorway, lined by well-preserved quaint peasant houses from the 16th century offers a glimpse into life in Antwerp a few centuries ago and an enchanting escape from the bustle of the urban center.

Cathedral of Our Lady
The next destination is the emblematic icon of the city: the Cathedral Of Our Lady. The imposing church with a striking Gothic appearance is a prominent figure on the skyline as no buildings in the city are permitted to be taller than the looming tower of the Cathedral of Our Lady, elaborately decorated with ornate lacework.

Meir
Proceed to browse through the shopping hub of the city: Meir Street. The busiest place in Antwerp is home to all major international brands, shopping centers, especially the grand Stadsfeestzaal Shopping Centre, and gorgeous historic buildings. The sumptuous window displays and joyful street performances by traditional performers attract thousands of tourists who come to enjoy the vibes every day.

Vlaamse Opera (De)
Continue to check out the elegant and luxurious facade of the Vlaamse Opera, one of the most impressive grand buildings in the city. The Neo-Baroque opera house, built in 1904-1907, was a symbol of the Flemish movement.

Antwerp in Central Station
The last step of the tour is the 17th-century Central Train Station. The majesty and grandeur of the construction with its domes, arches, and sculptures make it a true railroad cathedral! A visit inside to marvel at marble floors, stained glass windows, and ornate decorations can transport visitors back to the golden age of rail travel.
