Chichen Itza is a world-famous Mayan ruin complex on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. Graphic stone carvings survive on structures such as the ball court, the Temple of the Warriors, and the Wall of Skulls. A cenote is a natural cavity that naturally accumulates water. Like sea level, the water level fluctuates due to environmental factors such as weather, rainfall, and hurricanes.
