Start the tour by marveling at the majestic New Castle, located at the Naples port and facing the Mediterranean Sea. Until the 18th century, the imposing 13th-century castle served as the seat of a royal seat for kings of Naples, Aragon, and Spain, who have made the history of the city great.

Across the street in front of the fortress is 19th-century Galleria Umberto I, boasting exceptionally intricate domed roofs made of glass and steel. The elegant historic mall, the symbol of renovation that Naples takes huge pride in, is one of Italy’s most popular shopping arcades.

After some steps towards the south, set foot on the magnificent 19th-century Plebiscite Square, named after the plebiscite that brought Naples into the unified Kingdom of Italy. Home to the Royal Palace of Naples, the largest square in the city, built with volcanic rocks from Mount Vesuvius, is an ideal spot for iconic Naples souvenirs with the looming volcano in the background.

Proceed to come closer and admire the majestic statues on the façade of the 17th-century Royal Palace which tell the story of the kings of Naples. After the castle, the palace has been the center of royal power in southern Italy for three centuries.

Right across the square is the unique-looking San Francesco di Paola Basilica, built in the style of the Roman Pantheon. Interestingly, it was originally erected as a palace for Napoleon but ended up becoming one of the main churches of Naples. Check out the photogenic equestrian statues in front of the church, attached to some famous myths of the square.

After leaving the charming architecture showcase on the square, continue to stroll along the scenic Via Nazario Sauro, running along the rocky beach, and soak up the beautiful seascapes, refreshing breeze, and the vibes of the beachfront promenade.

At the end of the enchanting stands the 17th-century Fountain of the Giant, an exquisite fine piece of Mannerist art featuring a trio of arches, mythical sculptures, and marine animals, testifying the Greek origin and maritime culture of Naples.

The tour finishes at Egg Castle, one of the oldest castles in Naples which takes its name from the legend of a magical egg supporting the ancient structure and the city. Located on a lovely island off the picturesque Gulf of Naples where the Greeks settled in the 7th century BC, the castle offers you incomparable views over the tranquil gulf and a good starting point to explore numerous delightful cafés and restaurants in the cozy village on the island.
