#Culture
Jakarta Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Jakarta, Indonesia, which is also the seat of the Roman Catholic archbishop of Jakarta, currently Archbishop Ignatius Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo. Its official name is Gereja Santa Maria Diangkat ke Surga, derived from the original name in Dutch, De Kerk van Onze Lieve Vrouwe ten Hemelopneming. This current cathedral was consecrated in 1901 and built in the neo-Gothic style, a common architectural style to build churches at that time. The Jakarta Cathedral is located in Central Jakarta near Merdeka Square and Merdeka Palace, right in-front of the cathedral stands the Istiqlal Mosque.

Altstadt von Jakarta
Formerly known as Batavia, Kota Tua was once the capital of the Dutch East Indies, and you can still see traces of that history in its Amsterdam-style canals and Dutch-era buildings. Exploring on foot helps the area make sense: each museum, square and canal-side stop builds a clearer picture of how this part of Jakarta developed over time.

Intan Bridge City
Apart from being a spot for hanging out, Kota Intan Bridge also tells interesting history. During the reign of the Dutch, the name was the Engelse Brug or Britain Bridge. Why was that? There was a base of Britain Army back then. Later, the name changed in 1900 into the Het Middlepun Brug or Central Bridge. The reason was none other than the domination of the Dutch central government in such area. In terms of function, the bridge becomes an access and inspection area for any ships that either entered or left Sunda Kelapa Port.

Hafen von Sunda Kelapa
Sunda Kelapa Harbor became the main shipping stopover in the archipelago which was built in 1527 during the Portuguese Colonial rule. Then on June 22, 1527, the combined forces of the Demak and Cirebon Sultanates led by Pengeran Jayakarta successfully expelled the Portuguese and changed the name Sunda Kelapa to Jayakarta until it eventually became Jakarta. Thus, June 22 was designated as the birthday of Jakarta.
