Imagine: your fingertips trace a stone wall weathered for a thousand years. In that moment, you feel a connection—as if sharing a silent conversation with someone who stood here centuries ago.
That is Feilai Peak's first gift.
It's not a mountain to conquer. It's an open-air stone sculpture museum—hidden among hills, beside streams, inside caves. You'll hear Cold Spring Creek bubbling, smell ancient trees, feel cool air from the grottoes. Your pace slows. Your mind quiets.
Then you'll discover what makes visitors from around the world gasp—on this small hillside lies the largest collection of ancient Buddhist stone carvings in southern China. Over 380 statues, spanning 700 years, are hidden here.
By the stream, you'll see a pot-bellied Maitreya Buddha—robe open, belly out, beaming with joy. He's China's earliest surviving pot-bellied Maitreya, and the most famous. Seeing his smile, you'll feel no worry is too heavy to let go.

Lingyin-Tempel
Lingyin Temple, built in 326 AD, is Hangzhou's oldest Buddhist temple—nearly 1,700 years old. Europe was in the early Middle Ages; China was entering the Northern and Southern Dynasties. The founder was an Indian monk named Huili.
The first thing you notice is the subtle sandalwood incense—not strong, but everywhere, like a thin veil over the temple. Monks chant lowly; a wooden fish taps steadily like a stream. You slow your steps without being told—the temple's atmosphere naturally calms you.
Step into the Grand Hall and look up—a 24.8-meter Shakyamuni Buddha, carved from 24 camphor-wood blocks. It's China's largest camphor-wood Buddha statue.
Follow stone steps to the highest point—Huayan Hall. Fewer pilgrims come; woody coolness replaces incense warmth.
Chinese people love this place—not just to sightsee, but to fulfill vows and reconnect. For many, it's where the heart finds peace—praying for family, success, or just because they feel they need to come at least once a year.
