A picturesque and ancient fishing villa on the south bank (Gaia), known for its traditions linked to the sea, street fried fish restaurants and the public laundry. Just next door is the modern marina, an important nautical sports hub and the largest recreation port in northern Portugal.

Palácio do Freixo and Marina do Freixo: Located on the north bank, already in the transition out of the urban area, stands out this imposing 18th-century Baroque palace, designed by Nicolau Nasoni (now an Inn of Portugal). Right next door is the marina that serves as a support point for those who sail in this middle of the river.

Located in Olival (Gaia), Arnelas is a small and ancient rivery place that retains very traditional traits. Its small pier and the houses facing the river offer a bucolic and peaceful atmosphere, marking the beginning of the more rural landscape of the Douro.

As it approaches the final destination, the river expands and beautiful river beaches begin to emerge on the north bank (Gondomar), very sought after in the summer for bathing and for the practice of sports such as water skiing and canoeing.
