Designed by French architect Michel Pinseau, the mosque stands partly over the Atlantic Ocean, reflecting a verse from the Qur’an about God’s throne being over water. Its towering minaret reaches about 210 metres, making it among the tallest in the world. The complex spans roughly 9-10 hectares about 25,000 inside the prayer hall and another 80,000 outdoor. Its architecture blends traditional Moroccan elements — zellige tilework, carved wood, marble, stucco, intricate arabesques — with modern features like a retractable roof and powerful laser from the minaret pointing toward Mecca. location by the sea, and monumental scale make it both spiritually significant and a major tourist attraction.

The Old Medina of Casablanca is the historic heart of the city. Located near the port, it was rebuilt in the 18th century during the reign of Sultan Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdallah after an earthquake destroyed the old town. Surrounded by ancient walls and gates such as Bab Marrakech, the medina is a maze of narrow streets, whitewashed houses, and lively markets. Walking through its alleys, visitors discover traditional Moroccan life — small shops selling spices, leather goods, carpets, and jewelry, as well as cafés where locals gather to drink mint tea. The air is filled with the scent of food, the sound of bargaining, and the call to prayer from nearby mosques. Unlike other Moroccan medinas, Casablanca’s Old Medina is smaller and less crowded, but it keeps an authentic charm.
