The Monumental Complex of Santa Maria Novella comprises the majestic basilica and the adjacent Civic Museum hosted in the former convent's cloisters, rooms giving onto them, including the Spanish Chapel, the Ubriachi Chapel and the imposing refectory showcasing a selection of dazzling vestments and furnishings from the basilica's treasury. Erected in the 13th century and enlarged down the ages, this Dominican complex still hosts such masterpieces as a Crucifix painted by Giotto, Masaccio's Trinity, a Crucifix carved by Brunelleschi and a cycle of frescoes in the Green Cloister illustrating Stories from Genesis, including in particular Paolo Uccello's celebrated depiction of the Flood.
