Early morning on Penobscot Bay has a magic all its own. The water is calm, the air is fresh, and the bay is quiet in a way it simply won't be later in the day. Morning winds tend to be lighter, creating a gentle sea state and exceptional visibility — ideal conditions for spotting the wildlife that calls these waters home. Porpoises, harbor seals, and birds of prey are all more commonly seen in the early hours, making this sail a favorite among birdwatchers, nature lovers, and anyone who loves a peaceful start to the morning.
Departing at 9am, this is also a wonderful choice for nervous sailors, families with young children, and elderly guests — the calm conditions make for an easy, comforta...

Camden Harbor Park und Amphitheater
The harbor side park and amphitheater designed by Frederick Olmsted are visible at both the start and end of every Sail Camden adventure. Added to the National Register of Historic places, the park and amphitheater regularly serve as event spaces for book and craft fairs as well as hosting a number of weddings annually.

Camden Hills State Park
The spectacular view of the Camden Hills State Park from out on the Penobscot Bay is one that never grows old. The fact that the Camden Hills come right down to the edge of the bay is the reason that Camden is referred to as “where the mountains meet the sea”.

Mount Battie
The most visited of the Camden Hills, the top of Mount Battie was once home to a hotel. Nowadays visitors and locals alike add a trip to the top of Mount Battie to their lists of valuable local excursions. The top of Mount Battie is accessible by two trails of varying degrees of difficulty and the Mount Battie Auto Road. Iconic views of both Camden Harbor and the Penobscot Bay await visitors. We recommend you take a drive up the auto road after seeing Mt. Battie from the water on your sail.

Curtis Island Licht
Built in 1896, Curtis Island Light has long stood as a quaint and welcoming sight to mariners and visitors alike. Today its green flashing light serves as the first channel marker for the main entrance to Camden Harbor. Locals and visitors enjoy viewing the light from both the sea and from up close on the island for those lucky enough to secure transportation by boat to the island’s only gravelly beach.

With good visibility we can see Vinalhaven Island across the bay with its three prominent windmills generating power for the island. This island is accessible by a ferry departing from Rockland or by private boat. Take your bike over on the ferry for a day trip to this quaint island.

Even smaller than her sister island, North Haven Maine is a beautiful island with a small tight knit community. The island is visible from your sails on clear days across the bay. If you make it a destination on your holiday have a stay at Nebo Lodge where there is a highly raved about restaurant in-house. Sailors Bakery is another popular stop. North Haven is accessible by ferry departing from Rockland or by private boat.
