It stands as one of the most ambitious constructions of the Hellenistic period. The syncretism within its pantheon of gods and its kings' lineage, traced through Greek and Persian legends, provide evidence of the dual origins of this kingdom's culture.

Known as the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Commagene, Arsemia is one of the most important centers of antiquity in Mesopotamia.
