The impressive fort dates back to the 17th century and is famous for its enormous circular tower and strong defensive architecture. Inside, you can explore the fort's rooms, passages, exhibits and traditional features while enjoying panoramic views over Nizwa, the surrounding date plantations and the Hajar Mountains. Discover Al Hamra Old Village, a historic Omani settlement famous for its traditional mud-brick houses and old architecture. Some of the houses are several centuries old, and the village provides a fascinating glimpse into how Omani families lived in the past. Walking through the old lanes, you can see traditional homes, date plantations and the beautiful mountain scenery surrounding the village

Arrive at Jebel Shams, known as the “Mountain of the Sun.” It is the highest mountain in Oman and rises to around 3,000 metres above sea level. Enjoy breathtaking views over Wadi Ghul, often referred to as the Grand Canyon of Oman. The enormous canyon walls and dramatic mountain landscape create some of the most spectacular scenery in the country. This is the perfect place to relax, take photographs and enjoy the peaceful mountain atmosphere.

After enjoying Jebel Shams and the spectacular canyon views, begin your journey back to Muscat. The return journey takes you back through the Hajar Mountains and towards the Muscat area. Driving time: Jebel Shams → Muscat: approximately 3–3.5 hours
