Your Northern Lights adventure begins the moment our experienced guide collects you from your chosen pickup spot in Reykjavík, driving a specially equipped 4×4 super jeep designed for the journey ahead. Once everyone is aboard, we’ll leave the glow of the city behind and venture into the vast, quiet darkness of Iceland’s countryside. As we search the skies for the Aurora Borealis, the route may take us past some of the country’s breathtaking natural landmarks—hidden in shadow but revealed by your guide’s keen eye and knowledge. By traveling along less-traveled rural roads, we escape the crowds and enjoy a better chance of witnessing the Northern Lights in all their brilliance, along with the serene beauty of Iceland’s night sky.

When the conditions look right, your guide will choose the perfect viewing spot based on the evening’s weather forecasts. Then, it’s time to settle in and wait for nature’s show to unfold. The Northern Lights usually dance about 100 kilometers (60 miles) above the Earth’s surface—an otherworldly display born near the north magnetic pole. Watching ribbons of color sweep across the sky feels almost unearthly, as if the cosmos itself were painting over the night. Be sure to dress warmly, as the Icelandic night air can be brisk.
