After a 2.5 hour drive arrive at Ribčev Laz, a peaceful alpine village resting on the eastern shore of Lake Bohinj. Stroll across the charming stone bridge that stretches over the Bohinj River, visit the 13th-century Church of St. John the Baptist, and take in the breathtaking view where lake, mountains, and sky meet in perfect harmony. Standing proudly beside the stone bridge at Lake Bohinj, the Church of Saint John the Baptist (Cerkev sv. Janeza Krstnika) is one of Slovenia’s most iconic landmarks and a true symbol of the Bohinj region. Dating back to the 11th century, this beautiful medieval church is renowned for its well-preserved frescoes, some of which are among the oldest in Slovenia. Inside, you’ll find richly painted walls and ceilings depicting scenes from the life of St. John the Baptist, as well as wood-carved altars and centuries of artistic craftsmanship. Its picturesque setting, framed by the Julian Alps and the crystal waters of Lake Bohinj, make the view from the nearby stone bridge one of the most recognizable images in Slovenia — a perfect blend of nature, history, and culture. Located on the peaceful lakeshore of Lake Bohinj in Ribčev Laz, the Monument to Four Courageous Men stands as a powerful symbol of bravery, exploration, and the enduring connection between people and the Slovenian mountains. This bronze monument commemorates the first recorded ascent of Mount Triglav, Slovenia’s highest peak (2,864 m), made in 1778 by four local men from the Bohinj region. Their achievement marked the beginning of mountaineering in Slovenia and became a lasting source of national pride. The monument features four figures gazing proudly toward Mount Triglav, representing courage, unity, and the pioneering spirit of the Slovenian people. It is one of the most photographed landmarks in Ribčev Laz, offering a perfect backdrop of Lake Bohinj and the surrounding Julian Alps.

At the edge of Lake Bohinj, near the stone bridge in Ribčev Laz, stands the striking bronze statue of Zlatorog, the legendary golden-horned chamois from Slovenian folklore. This elegant sculpture gazing proudly over the lake is one of the most famous symbols of the Julian Alps and a must-see spot for every visitor. According to legend, Zlatorog lived high in the Triglav mountains, guarding hidden treasures in the valley of the Triglav Lakes. When hunters tried to steal the treasure, they wounded Zlatorog — but from his spilled blood bloomed magical edelweiss flowers. He then regained his strength and disappeared forever into the mountains, leaving behind a timeless story of nature’s beauty, mystery, and respect for the wilderness. Today, the Zlatorog statue represents the spirit of Triglav National Park and the Bohinj region — wild, pure, and proud. It’s also one of the most photographed landmarks in Slovenia.

From Ribčev Laz, it’s a short drive to the Ukanc parking lot, the main access point allowing you to easily reach the Savica Waterfall trailhead. Discover one of Slovenia’s most breathtaking natural wonders — the famous Savica Waterfall (Slap Savica), the source of the emerald-green Lake Bohinj and one of the most iconic sights in the Triglav National Park. From the parking area in Ukanc, enjoy a short, well-marked hike (about 20–30 minutes) up a forest trail with stone steps and panoramic viewpoints along the way. At the top, you’ll be rewarded with a stunning view of the 75-meter-high A-shaped waterfall, cascading dramatically from the cliff into a crystal-blue pool below. The sound of rushing water and the fresh alpine air make this a truly magical spot for photos and quiet reflection. You’ll have time to explore, take pictures, and enjoy the natural surroundings before heading back down to Ukanc

After the enchanting Savica Waterfall, you’ll enjoy a short, scenic drive to the stunning Lake Bled. Upon arrival, you’ll have around two and a half hours of free time to immerse yourself in this fairytale setting. Wander up to the majestic Bled Castle, perched on its cliff, and take in breathtaking panoramic views of the shimmering lake and the surrounding mountains. Alternatively, step onto a traditional wooden boat to reach Bled Island, where the quaint church at its heart invites a moment of tranquility and reflection. Whether you choose the castle, the island, or both, the serene beauty and charming atmosphere of Lake Bled promise an unforgettable experience.
