بُني هذا المعبد الرائع خلال العصر الروماني، حوالي عامي ١٦٢ و١٦٦ ميلاديًا، تحت حكم جيمينيوس مارسيانوس، وكان مُكرّسًا للإله هرقل. يفوق حجمه أي معبد آخر في روما نفسها. واليوم، يُمكن للزوار الاستمتاع بمشاهدة الأعمدة المهيبة المتبقية ويد حجرية ضخمة، يُعتقد أنها جزء من تمثال ضخم لهرقل كان يُزيّن هذا الموقع.

بُنيت هذه الكنيسة حوالي القرن الخامس أو السادس الميلادي، وتُجسّد أطلالها الرائعة التصميم البيزنطي الكلاسيكي، حيث تضم ممرات وصحنًا مركزيًا ومحرابًا. احرص على البحث عن الأعمدة والفسيفساء الأرضية المتبقية، التي تُضفي لمحات رائعة على عظمتها السابقة.

يعود تاريخ هذا المجمع الواسع إلى حوالي عام ٧٢٠ ميلاديًا، ويُعد أبرز معالم القلعة. بوابته الكبرى، المصممة على شكل صليب، هي تحفة معمارية إسلامية مُرممة ببراعة تخطف الأنظار. وربما كان مركزًا إداريًا هامًا ومقرًا للحاكم. لا تفوتوا زيارة قاعة الاستقبال الرائعة وخزان المياه الكبير، الذي كان ضروريًا لتلبية احتياجات القصر من المياه.
