Kulen National Park covers the birthplace of the ancient Khmer Empire, Phnom Kulen. Learn about the site’s significance as the place where King Jayavarman II proclaimed independence from Java in 802 CE, initiating the Devaraja cult of the king.
Explore the mountain, known during the Angkorian era as Mahendraparvata (the mountain of Great Indra), and see the 1000 Lingas carved under riverbed, Big Reclining Buddha, Waterfall ( This is the good place for swim if you want ), and enjoy a scenic drive through the countryside.
Learn about how Phnom Kulen was further developed under the rule of Udayadityavarman II, who made it the capital of his empire and constructed many temples and residences.
