Starting here gives you a unique perspective, as this former Jewish quarter tells an important story of Marrakesh’s cultural diversity and coexistence. After exploring the Mellah, we’ll continue our group tour to the Bahia Palace, one of the most stunning examples of Moroccan architecture and design. Built in the late 19th century, the palace was designed to be the most beautiful of its time, and as we walk through its ornate courtyards, intricate mosaic tiles, and carved cedar ceilings, you’ll get a real sense of the elegance and grandeur of Moroccan royal life. Visiting Bahia Palace is not just about seeing a historic building it’s about experiencing the artistry, history, and peaceful gardens that make this palace a true jewel of Marrakesh.

Next on our tour, we’ll visit the Soumarine area, a bustling part of the Medina known for its traditional souks and artisan workshops. Here, you’ll get a chance to see craftsmen at work, from copperware and leather goods to textiles and pottery. I like to show my groups how locals create these beautiful products using techniques passed down through generations. Walking through Soumarine is a sensory experience—the sights, sounds, and smells of the market really bring the Medina to life, and it’s a perfect spot to observe daily life and pick up unique souvenirs if you wish.

Next, we’ll visit the Medersa Ben Youssef, one of the most beautiful examples of Islamic architecture in Morocco. This historic Koranic school, dating back to the 14th century and expanded in the 16th century, was once home to hundreds of students studying religion and sciences.
As we explore, you’ll see the intricate stucco work, carved cedar wood, and stunning tile mosaics that make the Medersa so famous. I like to point out the peaceful courtyard and detailed craftsmanship, which reflect the artistry and devotion of Moroccan culture.
