كانت مدينة ماغنيسيا القديمة الواقعة في منطقة جيرمنجيك في ولاية أيدين غرب تركيا تُعرف باسم "مدينة السباقات" وجذبت العديد من الزوار بسبب كثرة الأحداث الرياضية التي نُظمت هنا في العصور القديمة. لا تزال المدينة القديمة تجد مكانًا لها على قائمة الأماكن التي يقصدها الكثيرون للسفر، حيث تجتذب الزوار بملعبها الرائع حيث أقيمت الألعاب الرياضية ومباريات المصارعة وسباقات العربات في الماضي. يُعتقد أن مدينة ماغنيسيا القديمة أسسها قبيلة ماغنيتيس اليونانية القديمة من ثيساليا. حتى لو سميت المدينة على اسم ماغنيتيس، فقد أطلق عليها اسم ماغنيسيا على نهر مياندر (نهر بويوك مندريس) في الفترة اللاحقة حتى يمكن تمييزها عن مدينة ليديا القريبة

مريمانا (بيت العذراء مريم) ١٠ دقائق بالسيارة من أفسس (مدة الرحلة ساعة واحدة) يقع بيت العذراء مريم على جبال ألاداغ على بعد ٥ أميال من أفسس. في المجمع المسكوني الثالث عام ٤٣١ م في أفسس، زُعم أن مريم جاءت إلى أفسس مع القديس يوحنا في عام ٣٧ م وعاشت هناك حتى وفاتها عام ٤٨ م. بعد اكتشاف البيت، أعلن رئيس أساقفة كوساداسي هذا المكان كمكان للحج في عام ١٨٩٢. في ٢٦ يوليو ١٩٦٧، زار البابا بولس السادس هذا المكان وصلى هناك
