Fatehpur Sikri is a magnificent 16th-century fortified city built by Mughal Emperor Akbar near Agra. It served as the capital of the Mughal Empire for a short period (1571–1585) and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city was built after Emperor Akbar visited the Sufi saint Sheikh Salim Chishti, who predicted the birth of his son. In gratitude, Akbar established this grand city around the saint’s residence. Fatehpur Sikri is famous for its beautiful blend of Mughal, Persian, and Indian architecture.
