There’s no better way to learn about the history and culture of a community than to eat its food. On our Newfoundland Food Tour, you will walk and eat your way through downtown St. John’s. Newfoundland and Labrador has one of the most unique food cultures in Canada. Long known for seafood, wild game, and delicious traditional meals, the province has a long list of mouth-watering ingredients and recipes. From a CFA finding success selling beloved Newfoundland pastry to a haunted pub that inspired a TV set to a former fruit stand literally built on the ashes of the Great Fire, we’ll explore the people, stories, and food that make the city unique. Come hungry! If you arrive gut-foundered, by the time we finish our walk, you’ll be stogged. Downtown’s Old Haunts is a journey into Newfoundland’s Creepy Culture, exploring the history, superstitions, tragedies, and strange experiences that linger to weave frights and folklore through some of the oldest streets in North America. Meet us at historic Erin’s Pub early to grab a drink and check-in. We’ll make two more pub stops along the way before ending the night at the Newfoundland Embassy, where amazing local music awaits you. Join us for a two-hour adventure in chocolate. Build your knowledge and appreciation of chocolate and the local flavours of Newfoundland and Labrador through this hands-on experience. In class, you’ll learn: Tempering basics: what it is, why it’s critical, and how to get your chocolate in temper. Bonbon making: every participant will design, decorate, shell, fill, and cap their very own bonbons. Then we’ll admire, share and taste the results. This class is full of the techniques, tips, tricks and unique flavours of Newfoundland. You’ll leave class with some new skills and your very own box of chocolates.
